petunias specials

This page descibes what you can do using petunia's special bones.

If you have no idea who or what petunia is.. read this page first

These bones are just bones even though they look completely different.
This is because I gave them custom shapes either because they do so something special or are really important.

You can see I made them a nice orange so it's easy for you to recognise them.
They are actually regular mesh objects that are hidden away on layer 20 in the scene.
So if you don't like them you can edit them like a normal mesh, if you can find them ;)

The parent

parent.jpg

This bone is the parent of every other bone in the rigg!
If you move or rotate it everything else moves with it.
You can use this if for instance you want to move petunia whilst he goes through a run cycle.

The butt

butt.jpg

The butt is a very normal bone. You can move and rotate it around as you wish.
But it is important because it moves around everything else as well.

The eye

The eye symbol is a normal bone but is used only as a target for the head.
So move the eye around to determine where Petunia should look.

The fist

fist.jpg

The floating fist bone can be resized to make all the fingers on a hand curl.
So you can make a fist with the hand.

The hand

hand2.jpg

The hand handle can be resized to spread the fingers of the hand.
Very handy if you want to for instance wave at someone!

The toes

toes.jpg

The toes handle can be resized to curl all the toes on the foot.
The toes handle is sized 1.5 so that you start with straight toes.
Make it smaller to curl the toes down, bigger to curl them up.

The foot

foot2.jpg

If you make the foot handle bigger Petunia will stand on his toes.
This way you can place the foot bone exactly where you want relative to the floor.
And by resizing the foot handle you can decide if you want the model to stand on his toes or flat feet.
To have him stand on his heel you just rotate the foot bone (not this orange thing but the bone in the foot).
You'll want to use this handle together with the toes handle to make sure the toes don't dig into the ground when standing tiptoe.

That's about it.

If you've read the other pages about Petunia, you now know everything you need to start animating him!

Have fun... enjoy... And show me your results!!!
